Matthew Lister7pm - 10pm
Matthew Lister grew up right here in Rindge. After studying classical guitar at UNH and graduating summa cum laude in 2001, Matt relocated to Dover, New Hampshire, where he's been a performer and instructor of classical guitar for over a decade.
Born in Pisa, Italy, Matthew moved to New England when he was two. He began playing violin and guitar while still quite young, and gravitated towards classical guitar in his early teens. His early influences included English folk master John Renbourn, American violinist Mark O’Connor, and Spanish flamenco master Sabicas.
Matthew's latest album, a holiday album called The Suite Christmas, features his own arrangements of a number of Christmas songs in multiple styles. Matthew plays both guitar and ukulele on the album, and is skillfully accompanied by the accomplished violinist Melissa Waterhouse.
Matthew Lister’s first album, The Suite Acoustic, consists of an eclectic mix of original and classical compositions that showcase his talents as a composer and arranger. Violinist Melissa Waterhouse and guitarist Nicholas Lanzer lend their considerable talents to the project.
Included are Matthew’s arrangements (for two guitars) of all seven minuets of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Sieben Menuette” KV 65a. This marks the first time these minuets have been arranged for two classical guitars. The Suite Acoustic has been well received by the press:
“The Suite Acoustic” plays like a sublime soundtrack for the small but memorable moments in life.” –The Wire
“The Suite Acoustic makes a nice addition to any classical guitar collection, and those fascinated by the connection between geography or history and music will be intrigued.” –TheDailyAlbum.com
